How White Grapes Become Amber Wine
Amber wine is made from white grapes through skin contact, when the grapes are pressed and ferment together with their skins.

Amber wine comes from white grapes during skin contact fermentation. As the juice stays with the skins, the wine takes on its amber color. We call our amber and red wines brother and sister because the winemaking process is the same. After skin contact, the wine becomes more tannic.
Qvevri does not play any role in the color or flavor of the wine. Before winemaking begins, the qvevri is sealed with wax so that no liquid enters from the soil and no outside bacteria can get in. After this sealing process, the juice remains fully protected.
